The size of the car is between Rio and Optima, and the main competitors are Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Golf, Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Suzuki SX4, Ford Focus, Citroën C4, Lada Vesta, Opel Astra, Mitsubishi Lancer, Peugeot 301 (2012), Nissan Sentra, Renault Megane, SEAT Leon, Skoda Octavia and Toyota Corolla. Ceed is aimed at the European market and designed in Europe. The name comes from the abbreviation EEC (European Economic Community), written from right to left, then added «ed» and reduced «ceeed» before «cee'd», and since 2018 the apostrophe has been removed, leaving «ceed».
First generation (ED, 2006—2012)
The prototype car was shown in the spring of 2006 at the Geneva International Motor Show. On December 7 of the same year, the car went on sale with a 5-door hatchback body, which has the following dimensions in millimeters - length: 4235, width: 1790, height: 1480. On July 20, 2007, cee'd_sw began to be sold with a station wagon body (4470:1790:1490). October 25 began to produce a 3-door hatchback (4250:1790:1450). The car is based on the Hyundai-Kia J4 platform. Production was carried out in the Slovak city of Zilina at the Kia Motors Slovakia plant.
The range of gasoline engines includes three models with a volume of 1.4 (G4FA), 1.6 (G4FC) and 2.0 (G4GC) liters with a capacity of 109, 122 and 143 hp. respectively. All in-line four-cylinders with two camshafts and aluminum cases, and also have a variable valve timing system (CVVT). All gasoline engines can use liquefied natural gas (LPG) as a fuel.
Three diesel engine options are also available (factory code D4FB) 1.6 liters (90 and 115 hp) and 2.0 liters (140 HP). All diesels are turbocharged with variable turbine geometry (VGT) and common rail direct fuel injection. Gearboxes can be as follows - 5 or 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
In 2009, the car was restyled - they changed the exterior lighting, the radiator grille, as well as minor changes in the interior design.
Second generation (JD, 2012—2018)
The next generation Ceed was presented to the public at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show. Kia presents the car as better equipped and more attractive to the driver than the first generation, but the price has risen markedly. Body options offered as 3-door hatchback (length: 4250 mm, width: 1780 mm, height: 1450 mm), 5 door hatchback (4310:1780:1470) and 5-door station wagon (4505:1780:1485). The car is based on the Hyundai-Kia J5 platform.
The line of gasoline engines is represented by three modifications of 1.4 and 1.6 liters with a capacity of 100 and 130 hp. respectively. All 4-cylinder rows. Diesel engines two volume 1.4 (without turbo) and 1.6 (turbocharged) liters with a capacity of 90 and 128 hp, as well as in-line four-cylinders. Gearboxes provide a choice of two - both 6-speed manual or automatic.
The 2012 Ceed passed the Euro NCAP safety tests and achieved very good results, which you can see in the table on the right.
Third generation (CD, 2018—present)
The third generation was announced in February 2018 and was officially presented to the public at the International Geneva Motor Show in March, with production beginning in May of that year. In June, the car went on sale as a 2019 model. The body was presented in two types - 5-door hatchback (length: 4310 mm, width: 1800 mm, height: 1447 mm) and station wagon (4600:1800:1465).
At the time of the appearance of the car, there were two gasoline engines with a volume of 1.0 liters (120 HP) and 1.4 liters (100 and 140 HP). Diesel engine with a volume of 1.6 liters with a capacity of 115 and 136 hp. There are two gearboxes - a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed robot.
